At an elevation of 5,732 m, Yala Peak is
located north of Kathmandu in Langtang, near the Tibetan border. The Nepal
Mountaineering Association considered it as Trekking Peak. The most
uncomplicated and non-technical climbing makes it easy and Suitable for anyone
with trekking experience. But the hiker must be in good physical condition.
Climbing to the top of Yala also offers the best peak climbing excitement in
the Langtang region beyond hiking. It is a fantastic beginner mountaineering
trip, as these are the most natural trekking peaks in Nepal. Yala Peak rises
just off the Tibetan border. You can see an exceptional view of Mt. Langtang
Lirung, Shishapangma, Gang Chempo, and Dorje Lakpa.
Driving from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi
takes you on the journey on the Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu trail. Climbing
Yala Peak allows you to enter directly between the peaks of the Himalayas and
get off the beaten track. You walk through fascinating remote and relatively
sparsely populated areas. The trek allows you to explore through Langtang
National Park, the home of the Tamang people. The ascent through the grasslands
reaches the Kyanjin Gompa meadows. It would be a great pleasure to feel the
conquest of Yala Peak. Once again, the views from the top of the Yala peak are
spectacular.
After climbing Yala Peak, You descend from
the upper Langtang Valley then Syabru before following a different path, after
Sing Gompa, to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda. There are a dozen lakes around
the Gosainkunda, namely Bhairabkunda, Saraswatikunda, and Gosaikunda. The trail
goes to the Helambu trail. Helambu Valley is famous for its pleasant climate, natural
beauty, and views of the beautiful snowy mountains.
It lacks the views of mountains like
Langtang and Gosainkunda. It also offers insight into village life and is a great
winter or cultural hike. You descend abruptly through deeply eroded chasms
towards the Tamang colony of Mulkharka and towards Sundarijal. The Yala Peak
climbing is for those who want to climb easily or without previous climbing
experience.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, we will greet you then transfer you to your reserved hotel. When you have settled down and refresh up, we will host a briefing session on your program. You will have a meeting with your guide and discuss the necessary equipment for the trip, and we will process the hiking permits. If you arrive in the evening, we will have the same meeting the next morning after having breakfast.
Today, after having breakfast, you will depart for a full-day tour of the Kathmandu Valley. You can visit the sacred temple of Pashupatinath and Swyambhunath, ancient and mainly inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Boudhnath stupa is the most significant Buddhist stupa, and the first-class arts and historic diagram of Kathmandu's Durbar Square, reflecting the historic Nepalese culture, are highlighted for the duration of your guided tour. On the way back to your hotel, you will have time to explore the nearby area, have dinner, and perhaps wander the famous Thamel streets.
After breakfast in the morning, drive along the hills northwest of Kathmandu for about 7-8 hours. You will witness the magnificent landscape of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Annapurna II, Manasalu, Ganesh Himal, and other minor peaks along the route, as well as lush green landscapes of hills, rivers, and villages. Take in views of the Himalayas and the mountain way of life through terraced fields and rustic villages. The landscape of foothills and the look of the ridges run through the bazaar of Trishuli, Betrawati, and Dhunche. You feel like you are heading into the deep ground then descend to Syabrubesi for the night.
The exciting first-day trail crosses the Bhote Koshi River, which flows from Tibet and follows the Langtang Khola. After a visit to Rinpoche Gompa, follow the stone-cobbled main street outside of town above Langtang Khola. After crossing the bridge, the path slowly goes towards Bamboo by a landslide. The route crosses a subtropical forest, protected by maple trees and oak, spruce, and blue pines. A variety of fauna, yellow-throated marten, wild boar, langur monkey, red panda, Himalayan black bear, etc. are the inhabitants of the forest. Then your increment will slowly rise from the rim. Finally, your way is to spend the night at the Lama Hotel.
The day begins with a light ascent; however, it shortly gets steeper, climbing through wild forests, maple, oak, and red rhododendron over the Langtang Khola. The breathtaking glimpse of the snow-capped peaks starts offended to show up with a fleeting view of the bush Langtang Lirung thru the trees. The trail goes through the log bridge, and on the way up, you can find the lush meadows of Ghora Tabela. The trail crosses a stream and climbs several watermills and prayer wheels to the large village of Langtang, home to Langtang National Park. The village has flat-roofed Tibetan-style houses, and the carefully carved and manipulated windows of the upper town is worth exploring. Langtang valley is bounded by stone bulwark where people grow buckwheat, wheat, potatoes, turnips, etc. in the fields, and it is easy to find yak and wild goats walking around.
The trail winds through the city and climbs a ridge topped by a large chorten. It then passes gradually in front of an impressive mani wall, crossing a stream towards the small town of Mundu. After crossing small streams with cantilevers and moraines, you can see the Kyanjin Gompa Monastery and the impressive ice drops flowing from the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Kimshung. The surroundings are also attractive due to the famous government-run cheese factory. After having lunch, you will explore the area with abundant panoramic views of Ganja la, Langtang Lirung, Genjempol, and Yala Peak, etc.
Today is the day of rest and exploration of trekking. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, or you can cross the moraine to see the spectacular snow faces and glaciers of Langtang Lirung or climb the Kaizin Ri and Tersco Ri, which is the highlight of this trek. It is easy to hike to enjoy a breathtaking panorama of Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji. You also have options for a detour to Langshisa Kharka. There are several alternatives for secondary roads; the surrounding northern regions have many small uninhabited valleys. Stay overnight in Kyanjin.
Today, you are setting up the first Yala Peak base camp at the height of 5732m. It's a short training day to climb to the top the next day.
You will start climbing early to the top of Yala Peak with our crew. It would be a great pleasure to feel the conquest of the mountain. It offers magnificent panoramic views of the landscape from here. After resting, you return to Kyanjin Gompa for the night stay
Enjoy breakfast observing the surrounding impressive snow-capped genetic mountains. You will follow the same path following the Langtang Khola to the city of Langtang, then to Ghora Tabela. After lunch, continue the steep descent to the Lama Hotel. Along the way down the hill, you will see fantastic views of the towering mountain that you missed along the way.
Today, after breakfast, you return to Syabru Bensi. The trail descends mainly through lush vegetation with fascinating views of the mountains and green hills. You can walk the ascending and descending path that leads to the village, allowing you to learn more about the customs and culture of the Tamang ethnic group.
You will return to Kathmandu by highway, passing by terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills, and along the bank of the Trishuli River. It takes 7 to 8 hours to arrive at your hotel in Kathmandu.
Today, you will have a free day in the Kathmandu Valley. You can walk the streets and buy souvenirs from Nepal. In the evening, you will have a typical Nepalese dinner, accompanied by cultural performances.

Accommodation is included in the price
of your package. We make sure to offer you the most comfortable accommodation
possible during your stay.
During the trip, the nights will be
spent in clean and comfortable tea rooms with high quality and good food.
Single rooms usually have two narrow beds. Family-run accommodations are a
great place to meet Nepalese. In Nepalese culture, a guest is equal to God, and
this has undoubtedly become a reality even more, as the tourism industry has
improved its meager income opportunities.
During the climbing period, we will
provide all camping equipment and three hot meals per day Breakfast, lunch,
dinner, tea/coffee, and boiled water. Meals will be tasty and hygienic. On the
day of the summit, we offer a packed lunch with high-calorie foods that are
quickly consumed at high altitudes. In addition to climbing Sherpa guide, there
will be another team of porters to carry the camping gear and set up tents and
a well-trained cook.
It must be adequately protected in terms
of the insurance. You will need specialized travel insurance to participate in
risky activities. We recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that
covers cancellation, loss of luggage, theft, injury, liability, medical
treatment, death, and expenses. Make sure the insurance covers all the
activities you will do during your stay in Nepal, including trekking and
climbing. If a client requires medical treatment, all hospital expenses,
including physician fees and repatriation costs, are borne by the client.
If you are injured and cannot walk in a
remote area, a helicopter rescue will be arranged. We have an agreement in
Kathmandu that guarantees the payment of evacuations by helicopter. We will
give the helicopter operator a cash deposit and collect the money once it has
been rescued. Before leaving on an expedition, we will ensure that your policy covers
mountaineering explicitly; otherwise, you may have a hard time settling the big
claim.
Safety for Yala Peak Climb
When traveling in remote mountainous
areas, uncertainties such as weather, health problems, and natural disasters
require flexibility. Although our goal is to follow the route, your safety is
always our priority. We ask for your cooperation in accepting the decisions and
advice of our trusted and experienced guides if they consider it necessary to
change or cancel part of the route due to safety problems.
We must also plan some additional days
since bad weather can affect the schedule. It does not guarantee a successful
climb, but often avoids the disappointment of a cloudy day at the top.
Trekking guide and staff arrangements
The most important thing that makes your
Yala Peak Climbing successful, enjoyable, and memorable is the qualified,
experienced, courteous, and helpful hiking guide and crew members who can
handle your days in the mountains with no hassle. The best and most
professional leaders will lead your walk. All of our trekking managers are
carefully selected based on their appropriate experience, leadership skills,
and personal skills. To support local communities, we only employ local staff
who have sufficient familiarity with the geography, culture, flora, fauna, and history
of their local regions.
Acclimatization
The route for Yala Peak Climbing is
planned with a high degree of knowledge of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).
Acclimatization will help you adapt to a gradual change in altitude, ensuring a
successful journey. A separate day in Kyanjin Gompa is reserved for
acclimatization, but it is essential to remember that some visitors are more
vulnerable than others.
Fitness and experience conditions
Yala Peak Climbing Trek is rated 2B,
which means that the technical aspect of climbing requires the use of ropes,
ice axes, and crampons. Besides, the real point of climbing Yala, as well as
trekking, requires a functional cardiovascular condition. Climbing to Yala Peak
will usually require 5-6 hours of walking per day. However, on the day of the Yala
Peak summit, you will need to hike 8-9 hours. No previous climbing experience
is required; however, last high altitude climbing and trekking experiences will
always be a benefit. There will also be pre-ice training for participants to
facilitate the expedition. The training will mainly focus on the use of
climbing equipment such as ropes, ice picks, harnesses, crampons. It is
essential that participants with pre-existing health conditions, such as heart,
lungs, blood, and other medical needs, consult their physician before
traveling.
The Yala peak is not technically demanding, but at 5500 meters above sea level you will feel that the lower oxygen levels and the additional energy are used up, and of course, you are open to the elements. You will have to pay attention to your hydration and maintain a slow and manageable pace.
by Anthony S. Sandoval, Canada
The three
friends from Canada climbed Yala Peak in the Langtang Valley in early 2017.
This is the most suitable summit for the budget conscious and looking for a
less technical high altitude climbing adventure.
We didn't
have much time but we were interested in peak climbing and this seemed like one
of the cheapest and fairly affordable trips we could find. Due to a lack of
mountaineering experience, we thought it would be a good idea to have a guide
with us.
The Langtang
Valley is magnificent; It is a very surreal experience to be surrounded by
peaks of 6,000 and 7,000 meters. There are also big differences in the
landscape, flora, and fauna as you move to a higher altitude.
Our Trekking
Company, Nepal Tour & Trekking Service P. Ltd. did an excellent job of
providing the necessary equipment for the trip. Almost all needs have been met
and they are extremely professional. The food in Nepal is good and healthy too.
We would like to thank the entire team and our tour guide Pema Sherpa for the
trip. It was a fantastic time that we appreciated. We would recommend this trip
if you have the time and funds. Physically it's not too difficult so I think if
you are in good shape you should be able to reach the top. However, the body's
response to altitude can vary and is largely based on genetics.
